Version 1.1

Version 1.1 was released in October, 2006. It incorporates the following changes:

1. More Activities FitFocus now contains data on almost 600 activities – more than 200 additional activities have been added. Two types of activities (Religious and Volunteer Activities) have been added to include activities more culturally and socially relevant for ethnic minorities and/or older adults. Harvesting wild rice, Anishinabe Jingle Dancing and participating in religious ceremonies are some of the new activities.
2. Updated Activities Data for almost 100 activities have been updated. In some cases, the description has been changed to be more appropriate and, in other cases, activity intensity values reflect new study results.
3. Age Equivalents When students select an activity, an “Effort by Age…” button allows them to compare the effort it takes them to do the activity with the effort expected for members of an “Active” or “Sedentary” population. This is a graphic example that often “Active” people have the same exercise capacity as “Sedentary” people who are decades younger. The same display is accessible under “Help” and it allows the user to display “age equivalents” for a full spectrum of activities and intensity levels.
4. Expanded Benefit and Help Information Results of a major study of health professionals on impotence have been quantified and included in the Benefits display. The associated Help information has been updated.
A discussion of issues related to arthritis has been added. Because of the complexity of arthritis and the variety of risk factors involved, calculation of a numerical relative risk value is not practical. A detailed description of risk factors identified in several studies will help you quantify your particular risk of arthritis.
